Garage Door Panel Replacement

Backed into the door? A dented, cracked or bent panel doesn't always mean you need a whole new door. Sometimes the damaged section can be replaced.

Joy Garage Services replaces damaged garage door panels for homes and businesses. Whether a single panel can be replaced depends on your door's model and whether a matching panel is available. We check that at the estimate and give you your options. Price Before Work Starts. Call (252) 832-8312.

Safety

If the door is badly bent, crooked or off its track after an impact, stop using it and don't run the opener. Don't try to remove a panel yourself: the springs and cables are under tension.

Why garage door panels get damaged

Vehicle impact. Backing into the door is a common cause. Even a slow bump can dent, crack or bend a section.
Stray objects. Balls, bikes, tools and equipment can hit a panel and leave a dent or a crack.
Storm damage. Strong wind and flying debris can dent or crack panels, especially on lighter doors.
A door that hit something while closing. If the door closes on an obstruction, or runs out of line, the edge of a panel can bend.
Wear and weathering. Sun, moisture and temperature changes weaken panels over time. They can crack, warp or rust, especially near the bottom edge.
Loose or failing hardware. Hinges that have pulled away from a panel can stress and crack it.

Types of panel damage

How a panel is damaged affects whether it can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

Dents

A shallow dent may only be cosmetic, and the door can still work well. A deep or creased dent can weaken the panel and make the door bind.

Cracks

A crack lets in light, air and moisture, and tends to spread. Cracked panels usually need to be replaced.

Bent sections

A bent panel can pull the door out of line and strain the rollers, hinges and opener. It's worth getting checked.

Single panel or several

If only one section is damaged, replacing it can be a good fix. If several are, a new door may be the better choice.

Common questions

Person holding a smartphone

Can I replace just one panel?

Often, yes, if a matching panel is available for your door's model. We check that at the estimate.

Will the new panel match the rest of the door?

It depends on the model, color and age of your door. We tell you what to expect at the estimate.

When is a new door the better choice?

When several panels are damaged, a matching panel isn't available, or the door keeps failing. You can read more on our page about new doors.

Can I use the door with a dented panel?

If the door still runs straight and smoothly, it may be okay for now. If it binds, rubs or runs crooked, stop using it and call us.

Do you replace panels on commercial doors?

Yes. We're Residential & Commercial, so we serve homes and businesses.

Can a dented panel be repaired instead of replaced?

Sometimes a shallow dent is only cosmetic and the door still works fine. A deep dent, a crease or a crack usually means the panel should be replaced. We take a look and tell you.

Will a damaged panel hurt my opener?

It can. A bent or binding panel makes the door harder to move, and the opener has to work harder. Over time that can wear out the opener and the hardware.

What if my door is old and the panel isn't made anymore?

Then a single-panel replacement may not be possible. We check at the estimate and go over your options, which may include a new door.
